Bushwalking for Pleasure
What’s in a name?
CAEX (pronounced ‘cakes’ of course) was formed in June 1982 by a group who had completed a bushwalking course run by the Council of Adult Education (CAE), hence the unusual name. We celebrated our 42nd anniversary in 2024. Some of the original members are still active in the group.
Our motto is ‘Bushwalking for Pleasure’. One of the ways we live up to our motto is through the Leader’s Cake where each activity leader brings a cake to share over a cup of tea or coffee at the end of the walk. This tradition began with our first walk and has continued ever since.
Our activities are planned to ensure safe enjoyment of the bush and other natural places. Our activities include day walks, weekend base camping trips, an annual lodge-based stay at Falls Creek as well as extended excursions in Victoria and occasionally interstate. Our activities include a strong social element including picnics and a Christmas party. Base camps, lodge-based trips and expeditions often include social activities such as visiting local attractions, ‘happy hours’ and group meals.
CAEX is a small and friendly Melbourne-based club with members from many backgrounds who live all around Melbourne and beyond. Members range in age from 50 to 80+.
We invite you to explore our website and Contact Us if you would like to know more about the club.
